Customer’s situation and main objective
Our client, a Japanese multinational leader in digital and printing services, with a history of more than 80 years, needed to translate the technical documentation for its printers from English into several languages, including German, Italian, French and Spanish. Faced with the challenge of handling a large volume and the need to optimize costs, we opted for an automatic translation strategy, with a partial post-editing service (light post-editing).

The role of Syntax
Through one of our partners in the ASAP Globalizers consortium, we were entrusted with the task of post-editing the documentation translated into German, French, Italian and Spanish, using a customized machine translation engine.

Syntax offers two types of post-editing: partial and complete. Partial post-editing focuses on correcting obvious errors and ensuring acceptable quality and comprehensibility in the final output. This service is ideal for projects that involve large volumes of technical documentation or have tight deadlines, where time and costs take priority over linguistic quality. However, it is important to note that this option may not be suitable for texts that require high linguistic quality. In this case, it is better to employ complete post-editing, which not only corrects errors, but also performs a thorough and detailed review of the content, ensuring that the quality is optimal and the client’s message resonates clearly in any language.

After a joint evaluation with the client, it was decided to carry out a partial post-editing. Our team of expert translators reviewed and refined the machine translation, correcting obvious errors and ensuring consistency in style and terminology. In a short period of time, a large amount of documentation was translated at a reduced cost.
